A judge in Tocantins state has issued an indefinite injunction against the Portal Arnaldo Filho news site, blocking it from publishing complaints by ex-workers at a private school in the city of Araguaína, Conexão Tocantins reports.
According to Araguaína Notícias, the Syndicate of Professional Journalists of Tocantins rejected the court-ordered censorship, calling it an attack on freedom of expression. The union said it would appeal the case to the federal government’s court watchdog agency, the National Justice Council; a higher state court, and the National Journalists’ Federation.
“Brazil today is experiencing full democracy, a principle that does not match attitudes that harm freedom of expression,” said Júlio Versa, president of the syndicate.
