The Ibero-American New Journalism Foundation (FNPI) will give the Cemex+FNPI New Journalism Prize to Peruvian journalist Gustavo Gorriti in recognition of his outstanding track record of investigative journalism.
Gorriti, 62 years old, has had his work published in various media in Peru and other countries, and he has written books about the guerrilla group Shining Path, added EFE.
He also was president of the Press and Society Institute (IPYS) and currently is the director of IDL-Reporteros, a non-profit investigative journalism team, of which he is the founder.
In a statement, FNPI emphasized Gorriti's reputation for "boldly tackling difficult cases of coverage, such as those relating to authoritarianism, corruption, drug dealing and conflicts" that have affected his country.
The journalist said he feels very honored to receive the award.
