"The press has been a frequent target in this year's electoral campaign [in Brazil]. From the beginning of the electoral period, August 16, until Sept. 18, 38,008 online attacks were recorded, with 34,801 on X, 2,716 on Instagram, and 491 on TikTok. These figures are part of the monitoring conducted by the Coalition in Defense of Journalism, CDJor for its Portuguese initials, a group of 11 civil society organizations dedicated to defending press freedom.

During this period, the monitoring also received 10 additional reports, covering offline incidents and cases that originated or were amplified in the digital space. One example is that of journalist Artur Rodrigues from ABC Paulista, who was approached and threatened by councilman Paulo Chuchu, of the Liberal Party. The councilman asked Rodrigues who he would vote for and warned him to be careful with his answer, showing a pistol at his waist while laughing.

The online monitoring methodology involves the analysis of monitored accounts, specific terms and hashtags, as well as collected posts (posts, reposts, and comments) on major social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and later, TikTok."
