Body of missing Mexican journalist found in hidden grave

The Mexican police found the body of journalist Noel López Olguín in a clandestine grave in Chinameca, Veracruz, The Associated Press and Milenio report. The journalist disappeared March 8, presumably kidnapped by drug traffickers.

According to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), the body was found after a captured drug leader, Alejandro Castro Chirinos, allegedly confessed to the killing and gave police the location of the grave.

The Attorney General has charged Chirinos with killing the journalist and five police officers, Milenio explains.

The CPJ reports that López was openly critical of local corruption in an area where the Los Zetas organized crime group is very strong and the police are often compromised or ineffective.
