Internet users and media rights activists in Brazil organized a June 21 marathon of Twitter posts to call for improved infrastructure and expanded access to broadband Internet, Rede Brasil Atual reports. The hashtag #minhainternetcaiu (myinterenetisdown) and the phrase “Broadband is your right!” were both among the most posted topics in Brazil that day, Link do Estadão explains.
“My Internet is down…in the pockets of the telecoms!” participants Tweeted at government accounts, during the online protest organized by the Broadband Campaign.
According to O Globo, the Brazilian Consumer Defense Institute (Idec in Portuguese) joined activists in criticizing the Ministry of Communication's national broadband expansion program, which they say favors telecommunications companies and not users.
