Bullet mailed to Peruvian journalist as death threat

Peruvian journalist Humberto Espinoza Maguiña received a death threat in the mail with a bullet in a letter addressed to his parents, reported the Institute for Press and Society on Monday, Aug. 8.

Espinoza, the director of Radio Ancash and the newspaper Prensa Regional in Huaraz, received a letter that read, "Shut up unless you want this bullet to end up in your head," according to the National Police and the news site Huaraz Noticias.

Espinoza suspects his investigations and criticisms against the regional government, judicial branch and the city's ministry of public health motivated the threat.

The local government in Ancash has also harassed and threatened other journalists in the region with death.
