An ex-police officer and ex-deputy in Argentina has been found guilty of killing a journalist 35 years ago, reported the Associated Press on Nov. 25.
Judge Adrián González found Luis Abelardo Patti guilty of the kidnapping, torture and killing of Ricardo Giménez in January, 1976, two months before the military coup d'état that ushered in Argentina's last dictatorship.
Giménez was a reporter for the newspaper El Actual in Escobar, Buenos Aires. The journalist was on a list of disappeared for several decades until his remains were identified on Feb. 21, 2008, according to the Télam news agency.
Patti will serve a life sentence for crimes against humanity. He has been jailed since April, 2011, reported La Nación. This is the first time a civil servant that has held elected office since 1983 has been found guilty of crimes against humanity, the newspaper reported.
