President Porfirio Lobo is arranging for Spain and Colombia to help solve the crimes committed in the last two months against six journalists and one radio announcer in Honduras, El Heraldo reports.
Wolf made the announcement at a meeting in El Salvador, where he said he may also seek help from the FBI and other agencies to investigate the crimes, Diario Co-Latino adds.
The recent killings remain unpunished and have made Honduras one of the
most dangerous countries for journalists. Organizations like the Inter American Press Association, UNESCO and Reporters Without Borders have urged authorities to investigate the cases, and President Lobo has expressed regret.
Police have arrested a suspect in the killing of Jorge “Georgino” Orellana, the seventh media worker killed this year. However, authorities have not reported progress in the other six cases, La Prensa says.
