The Paraguayan Journalists Forum (FOPEP) is writing a professional code of ethics for journalists, the newspaper ABC Color reports.

FOPEP says that recent constructive criticism from society about the media's work, and attempted censorship driven by ideological or political reasons, demonstrate that "journalists should exercise the profession with a growing adherence to professional ethics."

FOPEP has also proposed to create a national monitoring network that will issue alerts after reports of aggressions against journalists and threats to freedom of expression. FOPEP celebrated its fourth anniversary on April 27. It was created with support from the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas.
