A radio broadcaster became the 19th journalist killed in Honduras since 2010, prompting press groups to call for an investigation into the violence, reported the Associated Press.
Fausto Elio Hernández, correspondent and host for the program The Voice of the News on station Radio Alegre in the town of Sabá in northern Honduras, was hacked to death on Saturday, March 10, according to the freedom of expression organization C-Libre.
In light of the rampant impunity in Honduras, the organization Reporters Without Borders called for an international mission to Honduras to investigate the killings of journalists.
Since the beginning of 2012, not a day has gone without a journalist, local media owner or social commentator receiving a death threat, Reporters Without Borders said on March 2.
According to police, this killing was not related to the journalist's work, but was personal, reported the news agency. However, witnesses to the crime will not speak with police because they fear reprisal, reported El Heraldo.
