A young man confessed to killing Colombian journalist and political leader Argemiro Cárdenas Agudelo, and said that he was offered about $1,000 for the crime, which occurred on Thursday, March 15, reported the newspaper El Universal.
The young man, Jhon Alexander Jaramillo, apologized to the journalist's family, reported the radio site Radio Cadena Nacional.
Although the case is still under investigation, the motive behind the killing most likely is “debt and personal matters,” according to Radio Caracol.
“Colombia is one of the most dangerous countries in the continent for journalists,” according to Reporters Without Borders. Colombia's rating is one of the worst -- 143 of 179 countries -- in Reporters Without Borders' World Press Freedom Index published earlier this year.
