Newspaper vendors become latest targets of press violence after shooting in Mexico

The newspaper El Mundo de Córdoba claimed that gunmen fired on their vendors from a truck on Saturday, Nov. 19, in the city of Córdoba, in the Gulf state of Veracruz.

The publication added that both vendors took cover and were unharmed by the attack that took place along one of the city's main avenues. According to witnesses and the newspaper, the same truck was involved in another shooting hours earlier on city hall in the neighboring city of Fortín de las Flores.

A group of armed men set a fire that destroyed the offices of the newspaper El Buen Tono 10 days ago, also in Córdoba.

Mexico is considered the most dangerous country in Latin America to practice journalism. Recently, attacks against the press have started targeting actors not involved in investigative work. Click here to see a map of attacks on the press from the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas.
