Peruvian journalist denounces alleged plot to kill her

A Peruvian journalist said there is a plan to kill her, reported the Press and Society Institute (IPYS in Spanish). Ketty Vela, director of a program on TV San Juan and on Radio Marginal, in Tocache in northern Peru, said that an assassin confessed he had been paid more that $1,800 to kill the journalist.

Vela also said she has has received threatening phone calls since August, which could be linked to reporting on alleged links between drug trafficking and the mayor of Tocache, Corina de la Cruz.

In 2007, Vela also had received death threats, according to IPYS.
