A journalist and a cameraman for the news show CM& on Colombia’s TV Canal 1 were attacked with rocks and sticks by people living in a mining zone in northeastern Colombia, while seeking interviews with locals about a Canadian mining company's decision to postpone a project, El Tiempo reports.
Media workers Ana Mercedes Ariza and Armando Camelo were helped by the police and sent to a hospital for their wounds. According to Vanguardia, the reporters believe the attackers were incited by officials at the Greystar company, which announced it would withdraw its plans for a goldmine near the city of California, Santander.
RCN Radio reports that four people have been arrested for their alleged involvement, indentified thanks to a video that Camelo managed to film of the attack. See the video on the CM& site.
