The International Policy Center for Inclusive Growth of the United Nations Development Program and Mercado Ético released a report “Investigative Journalism: Themes for a South-South Debate,” that considers the role investigative reporting can play in developing countries.
The report comes from recommendations at the International Seminar on Investigative Journalism: A South-South Dialogue, held last November in São Paulo. During the event, journalists, scholars, and opinion leaders from Brazil, India, Mexico, South Africa, Switzerland and Qatar, along with UN representatives, discussed the governmental structures necessary to guarantee freedom of expression and legal protections for investigative journalists.
The report is available in English and Portuguese.
