A reporting team from TV Globovisión was attacked by a group of employees from the Venezuelan city of Plaza on Wednesday, Oct. 19, as they were covering protests in the city of Guarenas, close to the capital city of Caracas, according to the Press and Society Institute.
Reporter Daniel Guillermo Colina and cameraman Luis Reaño were trying to covering protesting merchants when a group of people prevented them from accessing the area where the merchants were demonstrating, according to the site Últimas Notícias.
Among the aggressors were workers from the city of Plaza, who called the journalists "fascists" and accused them of pushing for a coup. The journalists were pushed, but not injured.
Globovisión maintains a conflictual relationship with the government and faces several lawsuits that could lead to the channel's demise. The day before its TV crew was prevented from covering the protests, the channel was hit with a $2 million-plus fine for its journalistic coverage.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez frequently places himself in opposition to the TV channel and has warned the station to change its editorial line.
