Sentence that exonerates Kamel Nacif opens door to impunity in case of Mexican journalist Lydia Cacho: Article 19

"On Thursday, July 15, the Third Collegiate Court in the State of Quintana Roo granted an amparo to José Kamel Nacif Borge, freeing him from all responsibility for the crime of torture against the journalist and human rights defender Lydia Cacho. With this determination, the door is opened for the acquittal of the rest of the accused.

This judicial body indicates in this new ruling that the events that occurred on December 16 and 17, 2005, when Lydia was apprehended and tortured, were not related to the publication of the book 'The Demons of Eden: The power of child pornography in Mexico.'"
