"Journalist Gustavo Chica, of Guaviare Estéreo and Caracol Radio, was the victim of an armed attack last night [July 5]. He and his wife were leaving their home in [the Colombian municipality of] San José del Guaviare to go to a park when they were shot several times. Both were wounded and were taken by neighbors to a nearby hospital. Chica received wounds in the shoulder, thorax and neck.
The journalist had been threatened on several occasions for his informative work and had a protection scheme from the UNP [National Protection Unit]."
