"Gudelia Gálvez Tafur, director of digital news outlet Huaraznoticias.com, has received death threats in response to her reporting on alleged irregularities in public works projects in the city of Huaraz, [department of Áncash, Peru]. The International Federation of Journalists and the National Association of Journalists of Peru have condemned the threats and are calling for a swift investigation and immediate guarantees to ensure Gálvez’s safety and her right to work freely.
The threats began on July 4, 2025, and quickly escalated with the sending of explicit warnings, personal information and photos of weapons.
According to local media, the situation was made worse by the inaction of authorities. Gálvez tried to file a formal complaint with the Criminal Investigation Division, but her complaint was rejected on the grounds that it was not a consummated act."
