"Costa Rican journalist Adrián Quirós Araya was detained by Nicaraguan authorities on Friday, Sept. 5. He was on his way to cover the soccer match between the national teams of Costa Rican and Nicaragua, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
According to a report by Nicaraguan newspaper La Prensa, [Quirós Araya] was going through formalities at the border; however, when it came time to speak with the Nicaraguan authorities, his passport was confiscated and he was interrogated. The reason he was expelled from Nicaraguan territory, according to his social media posts, was a publication that he made more than a decade ago against Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, which was shown to him by immigration authorities.
'[...] With that argument, they expelled me from their territory, leaving me helpless and separated from my group,' he posted."
