Ex-gubernatorial candidate threatens reporter after video shows him praising drug lord El Mencho

Pedro Segura, a former candidate with Mexico's Green and Labor parties for governor in the state of Guerrero, threatened journalist Carlos Loret de Mola after the latter showed on the digital channel Latinus a video showing Segura singing a corrido in tribute to the alleged slain drug trafficker Nemesio Oseguera “El Mencho.” In a video posted on his social media accounts, Segura insulted and threatened the journalist.

“The dog that barks at me, I’ll shoot [sic]. I like corridos just like the government likes corridos about narco leaders […],” Segura said in the recording.

In August 2025, the Office of the Attorney General (FGR, by its acronym in Spanish) arrested Segura on charges of organized crime. According to local media, he was accused of using a hotel as a logistics center for the criminal group Guerreros Unidos. He was released some time later after the FGR was unable to prove his links to the criminal group.
