Bolivian radio journalist stabbed, threatened after criticizing merchants association

radio announcer was stabbed and beaten in the Bolivian city of El Alto, close to the capital city of La Paz, on Nov. 15, according to the newspaper Crónica Viva.

Leopoldo Ibarra, host of the program Press Freedom on the station Radio Gente, is recovering in a hospital after the attack he endured just before calling a taxi to go to work. Ibarra said he believes the attack was a result of his denouncing a merchants association.

I received death threats and intimidations,” the journalist told Bolivia TV, adding that his daughter also was the victim of an assault.
