"The Rio de Janeiro police are listening to witnesses to identify the killers and find out the motive for the execution of businessman and journalist Luiz Carlos Gomes on Aug. 12 in Italva, in the northwest section of Rio de Janeiro. The agents are going over images from security cameras installed in the region.
Gomes was the owner of Tempo News newspaper and presented the program "Quinta no Ar" on the community radio station Rádio Oásis FM. Police chief Rivelino da Silva Bueno, contacted by Abraji, declined to give further details about the investigation and could not yet say whether the journalist's death was related to his profession.
On the night of Aug. 12, Gomes was in his white Corolla with his wife, Cristina Rios, in the neighborhood of São Pedro Paraíso, in Italva, near the Campos dos Goytacazes area. The couple were leaving a party when two helmeted men on a motorcycle fired twelve shots at the victim. Rios, who is also Italva's secretary of Culture, Tourism, Sports and Leisure, was not injured."
