Survey identifies perpetrators behind violations against journalists in Bolivia

"The first National Survey on violations of human rights in journalistic work carried out by the Ombudsman's Office [of Bolivia] reveals that journalists identify social organizations, mobilized groups, their employers, political leaders, public entities and public forces as the main violators of their rights.

Distrust in courts, fear of reprisals and practical limitations, such as lack of time, resources and knowledge of reporting procedures are some of the reasons identified by journalists for not reporting violations.

The greatest threat to the practice of journalism (71.1%) lies in the lack of job guarantees, as identified by press workers, which shows a broad perception that job insecurity is a serious problem. More than half of those surveyed demand that the State provide them with the necessary guarantees for the development of their journalistic work."
