Peralta was attempting to interview the players when he was intercepted and beaten by the police, Líbero explains. He was carrying his press credentials, but Trome reports that the officers may have believed he was a fan.

“It was a savaging. I showed them my press credentials, but they still beat me up on the ground,” said Peralta, quoted in a different La República story.

The police have yet to make a statement about the incident.
