Police get lead in shooting of Brazilian blogger

Police in Rio de Janeiro have identified the car used in the nearly fatal shooting of a bloggerRicardo Gama, reported the news site Terra. As such, it will be easier to identify the shooter, said prosecutor Bruno Gilabert.

Despite a suspicion that he was shot for criticizing local officials in his blog, Gama said in an interview with G1 that he will not stop blogging. "We're in 2011 and a citizen can't have a blog on the Internet to criticize," he asked.

Friends of the blogger demonstrated Wednesday, March 30, in Copacabana, to protest what they are calling an "attack on freedom of expression," according to the newspaper O Dia.

Gama remains in the hospital, but he is out of intensive care. He underwent a second surgery and is in stable condition, reported the news site R7.
