Prison guards assault three journalists in Guatemala

Three Guatemalan journalists were assaulted by prison guards while investigating prison conditions, reported the newspaper Prensa Libre on Wednesday, Feb. 29.

Journalists Manuel López of Nuestro Diario, Carlos Sotz of Radio Iximché, and José Rosales of Prensa Libre reported the assault to Human Rights authorities in the municipality of Chimaltenango in central Guatemala.

The journalists said that the Director of the Center of Male Preventive Detention denied them information, insulted them, and even tried to take away their cameras, according to the the Center of Informative Reports of Guatemala (Cerigua).
