"Journalists Leonardo Núñez González and Eduardo Buendía, members of Mexicans Against Corruption and Impunity (MCCI), were detained this Wednesday [May 13] afternoon in the municipality of Tecámac, State of Mexico, while conducting a journalistic investigation related to alleged acts of corruption in the area.
The incident triggered an immediate alert among freedom of expression advocacy organizations, after the whereabouts of the journalists remained unknown for several hours.

Hours after the incident came to light, Mexicans Against Corruption reported that its reporters were out of danger. Through its official X account, the organization posted: 'MCCI reporters were detained by residents of Tecámac while conducting an investigation. The journalists are safe.'"
