Felipe Werneck, a Rio de Janeiro-based correspondent for the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, was arrested for contempt of authority on Sunday, Sept. 25, reported IG. Werneck and other journalists were at the police office for tourist services trying to obtain information about an attack on a tourists' hostel when they were ordered to leave. Upon questioning the expulsion, Werneck was arrested.
According to the newspaper O Dia, the reporter said the expulsion of the journalists was "bulls***."
After giving his statement, Werneck attempted to find out the full name of the official who ordered the journalists to leave, but he was denied that information, reported the newspaper Jornal do Brasil.
On his Twitter feed, the journalist thanked his colleagues for coming to his defense.
