Venezuelan journalists organizations file lawsuit against prosecutor's office for failure to respond to information requests

By Isabela Fraga

The organization Public Space, the National Union of Journalists and the National Syndicate of Venezuelan Press Workers filed a lawsuit against the Venezuelan Public Ministry on Monday, Jan. 14, for failing to respond to a petition sent to the government body in July 2012 demanding investigations into 15 attacks on press workers reported to the prosecutor's office, reported the newspaper Notitarde.

According to Public Space's website, representatives from the institutions went to the Administrative Litigation Courts to file a lawsuit against the body for failing to respond quickly and effectively to the request for information on the investigations into the attacks on journalists.

Public Space wrote on its website, "The Public Ministry maintains complete silence despite two opportunities on Aug. 31 and Sept. 26, 2012, when letters were sent demanding a response to the petitions."
