Zezé Perrella, the president of the Brazilian soccer team Cruzeiro and former federal and state deputy for Minas Gerais, has vowed retaliation against a journalist, Amália Gurgel, of the newspaper Hoje em Dia, after a May 29 story that revealed Perrella had not declared all his possessions or property, according to the blog Chico Maia.
"There will be retaliation,” Perrella said, as quoted by Hoje em Dia.
According to Gurgel, Perrella “holds a wealth that voters do not know about.” Gurgel's story said Perrella's declared income is on par with that of a middle class Brazilian citizen, despite the fact he owns land in Morada Novas de Minas, that is valued at nearly $38 million.
The state prosecutor opened an investigation based on the journalist's story, according to Estadão.
