The awards were given as part of the Digital Media LATAM 2018 conference taking place in Bogota, Colombia from November 14 to 16. For three days, participants take advantage of a conference, workshops, master classes, a technology and services expo and the awards ceremony. Editorial and business-side topics are explored.
As pointed out by WAN-IFRA, Brazilian media companies took home the most awards. It added that seven awards were given to purely digital media outlets. Additionally, media companies from Uruguay and Venezuela were among the finalists for the first time and a “significant number” of the projects concerned electoral coverage and fact-checking.
Entries for 115 projects from 64 companies and 15 countries competed in the awards.
The newly awarded projects from Latin America will compete against winners from Africa, Asia, South Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North America for the World Digital Media Awards 2019 in June 2019.
