Police in Uruguay's second largest city, Salto, opened an internal investigation on Jan. 19 to determine responsibility for an attack on the reporter Luis Díaz for the newspaper El Pueblo, reported the publication.
Díaz, who was in a stadium covering a local soccer championship, saw a police officer carrying a woman away and caught the scene on his camera. When the police officer realized he was being watched, he grabbed the journalist by the neck, pushed him into the crowd and tried to take his camera, according to the newspaper El Pueblo.
The journalist filed a complaint with the Salto police, which motivated the internal investigation. The Uruguayan Press Association condemned the violence and censorship.
