Freelance reporter Solly Boussidan, who was arrested Jan. 28 for allegedly working without proper accreditation, was deported Feb. 1, O Globo reports. He was sent to the nearby country of Abkhazia.

The journalist was traveling to Armenia through Russia on a tourist visa when the Jan. 24 Moscow airport bombing occurred. Boussidan sent a story on the media’s coverage of the incident to Terra and was arrested two days later.

Brazil’s National Newspaper Association (ANJ) condemned Russia’s behavior and called the charges “unfair and unfounded," Estado de S. Paulo adds.
