The border state newspaper El Diario de Chihuahua announced that two of its photographers had to leave the country after being threatened for publishing a photo of a man who died in a car accident in Ciudad Juárez, El Universal and La Jornada report.

The departure of the photographers is indefinite,” said Raúl Lechuga, the paper’s news director, who chose to not disclose the name of the employees, the date of their leaving, or their destination, AFP explains.

According to EFE, it was relatives of the deceased who made the threats. Chihuahua state’s Human Rights Commission is processing the complaint and state prosecutors are investigating the case.

The Ciudad Juárez Journalists Association, the Chihuahua Journalists Forum, and the Chihuahua Journalists Union condemned the threats and demanded more protection for threatened reporters, El Diario de Juárez reports.
