Guatemalan Association of Journalists denounces intimidation of journalist asked by police for sensitive information

“The Association of Journalists of Guatemala (APG, for its Spanish acronym) issued a statement in which it demands 'that the intimidations by the Specialized Division of Criminal Investigation (Deic) against journalist Diego España cease, since two agents of this police agency arrived at the newsroom of the newspaper La Hora to request sensitive information from the journalist without any reason, which is a violation of Article 35 of the Constitution'.

The APG added that the investigators requested personal information from the journalist, 'which is a clear sign that they were sent to intimidate him, because they were unable to justify the reason for the visit'.

It is not known if this police action is part of an investigation requested by the Public Prosecutor's Office, so the APG demands that the Minister of the Interior, Francisco Jiménez, give a public explanation of what happened and indicate why the journalist was targeted."
