"A federal judge sentenced Martín Eduardo L., alias 'El Tacones,' one of the alleged murderers of journalist Israel Vázquez Rangel in Salamanca, Guanajuato, to 20 years in prison.
The ruling recognized the journalistic quality of the victim and that the murder was carried out with the purpose of limiting his freedom of expression," reported the Attorney General's Office.
According to the investigation, in November 2020, reporter Israel Vázquez Rangel was carrying out journalistic coverage in Salamanca, Guanajuato, when people on a motorcycle shot him dead."
