The National Association of Journalists of Peru (ANP for its acronym in Spanish) is carrying out a series of commemorative activities on Jan. 25 and 26 in honor of the journalists murdered in the case known as the Uchuraccay Massacre 41 years ago.

“Throughout the country, we will gather to pay tribute to the martyrs, reflect on journalistic work and renew our commitment to truth and memory,” the ANP said on its social networks.

On Jan. 26, 1983, eight journalists seeking to cover the violence at the hands of the Shining Path guerrilla group were murdered by local residents who mistook them for militants of said group.
