Attack on Argentine journalist leads to two arrests but more questions

By Maira Magro

Two suspects, ages 19 and 20, were arrested in Caleta Olivia, in Santa Cruz province, accused of setting fire to journalist Adela Gómez's car last week, Clarín reports. However, a judge released them because of inconsistent evidence against them.

Gómez has attributed the attack to her reporting for Radio 21, and according to a separate story in Clarín, she doubts that the two suspects were involved. The mother of one of the suspects called the arrest an intent to mask a politically motivated crime.

In an opinion column, the paper's editor in chief, Osvaldo Pepe, complains about authorities' silence in the case. Hundreds of people marched in Caleta Olivia last week to protest the attack.
