An ex-attorney general sued a Mexican journalist and publishing house for libel over passages published in the book "Los Señores del Narco," or "The Drug Lords," reported Radio Formula.
The lawsuit was filed against the award-winning journalist named Anabel Hernandez, and the publishing firm Random House Mondadori, reported the newspaper Crónica.
Jorge Carpizo, who served as attorney general of Mexico from 1993 to 1994, said that he is convinced that investigative journalism should be defended, but that the accusations made by Hernandez have damaged his reputation, reported the newspaper Vanguardia.
Carpizo is responsible for the arrest of the Mexican drug traffickers Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán and Héctor "El Güero" Palma. “It is very difficult to build a good reputation and too easy to tarnish it," said Carpizo in an interview with the newspaper Milenio. In her book, Hernandez alleges that Carpizo walked away with part of the $400,000 reward offered for the arrest of "El Chapo."
