A bill in Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies would require media companies to provide life and disability insurance for journalists working in dangerous areas, Agência Câmara reports.
According to the National Federation of Journalists (Fenaj), similar bills have been proposed, but none have passed.
Ricardo Pedreira, director of the National Newspaper Association (ANJ), said the proposal was commendable, but unnecessary, as such insurance is already a standard clause in agreements between media worker unions and companies, Rádio Câmara explains.
